Joyce Lee
Heat Wave
8"x10”
Mixed Media on Wood Panel
Growing up i ok n Los Angeles amid 90-degree summers, I would feel heat radiating from the pavement and watch the air ripple around me in a heat haze, an optical illusion caused by the difference in temperature between the hot ground and the cool air. This collage captures the rising temperatures and blurry mirages of my childhood.
Joyce Lee is a Bay Area-based mixed media animator and collagist whose work captures the fuzzy feelings and miniature moments that make up life. They play with organic shapes and colorful textures to materialize connections between us, nature, and ordinary objects. They often create with scraps and disposable goods, reiterating that nothing is wasted, not even the dullest of days.
